When it comes to choosing bedding you want to get the best quality for the amount you can afford. The choice available is now huge compared to past bedding styles which have mainly consisted of plain cotton and plain styles.
Measuring Your Bed
It's advised before you go and buy new bedding to measure your bed to ensure you buy the right size for your bed. This is because although there are certain sizes of beds such as king size and queen not all of them measure the same, so for example you could have a queen size bed but need king size sheets. Here are the standard measurements for the different sizes of beds:
- Twin Size - Flat Sheets 66" x 96", Fitted Sheets 39" x 75".
- Double Size - Flat Sheets 81" x 98", Fitted Sheets 54" x 75".
- Queen Size - Flat Sheets 90" x 104", Fitted Sheets 60" x 80".
- King Size - Flats Sheets 109" x 105", Fitted Sheets 78" x 80".
Once you have your bed measured you can be safe in the knowledge when you go and buy your sheets you won't have any surprises when you get them home.
Choosing Your Bedding Fabric
There was a time when bed sheets were all made of cotton but now you can choose from a variety of materials such as cotton blends, silk, Egyptian cotton and fleece. All of these materials have different benefits but also vary in price greatly. One of the main factors effecting your sheets comfort is the thread count, anything over 250 should be soft but well wearing. The only down side to sheets with a high thread count is that the threads tend to be thinner meaning they aren't as hard wearing, sheets with a count under 250 however can be hard.
